Hi, I'm Marissa Renee (they/she), I'm a disabled non-binary genderfluid Latinx artist. I am an Omnist, a hedgewitch witch, a multi-disciplinary artist, a self-taught intuitive tarot reader, and a level II practitioner of Reiki Usui and Reiki Seichem Terra Mai.

Currently I am finishing my Art degree at UCSC after taking a medical leave of absence to care for compounding issues related to my physical disabilities, PTSD, and depression. I was finally given a POTS diagnosis last year after years of medical gaslighting, and identifying this as a part of my care needs has greatly helped me to improve my health and my depression that resulted from the ongoing physical challenges related to this disability. Despite the challenges of this disability I am able to accommodate my needs while continuing to pursue my passion for art and purpose in Reiki and tarot.

 

The name Dream Wxtch is a personification of the prophetic and sometimes predictive dreaming that I have had since childhood and continue to experience as an adult. I started experiencing my psychic and intuitive abilities and first connected with my Hellenistic patron dieties, Angel guides, and other spirit guides and patron spirits from the time that I was 7. Since that time I have been through cycles of connection and forgetting as I experienced and healed from childhood abuse and neglect. Healing is a continual process and I am always moving deeper into my wounds and finding lost fragments of self that I continuously unfold. Like the well loved metaphor of the lotus unfurling each petal, each layer of self after rising from the muck of the pond, I continue to draw from my past in greater understanding just as the lotus continues to to bloom and thrive with its roots drawing nourishment from the muck in the pond, I too continue to alchemist myself. I have discovered that the people around me often appreciate my insights and that my own understanding of difficulty allows me to connect and hold space for others, especially my clients.

 

I feel that Dream Wxtch represents my spiritual side, the part of me that is consciously and unconsciously connected to the unseen, and the part that receives insights through waking visions and unconscious dreaming. The x in Wxtch was chosen as an exemplification of my Latinx identity and my own experience with gender fluidity - in many ways I view my gender-fluid spirit as a reflection of the fluid middle realm that I enter when immersed in channeling states; open to change, and moving between the polarized borders as I follow what feels right in each moment.

 

I have always felt a strong connection to the natural world and from an early age I began to realize and tap into channeled states. It was in these states that I connect to angelic and ancestral guides and was led to understand the principals of universal forces, and my own practice of intuitive magick. I often received this wisdom and knowledge clairvoyantly, clairsentiently, claircognizently and clairaudiently while spending time connecting to the Earth. Through consciously connecting to the land at my local natural preserve, I also came to discover and build connections with the Earth Spirits of the land - ancestral spirits of the land itself, spirits of the trees, stones, and sky…woodland sprytes, goblins, and fae…as well as the spirits of Native peoples, left imprinted on the land. - The native land that I grew up on belongs to the Washoe and the Patwin people. - All of these unseen conscious energies became more and more present to me from the time I was 7 years old until I was about 15 when I started repressing many of these memories and connections after falling into major depression and high-functioning anxiety which accumulated due to years of impacted traumas, PTSD, psychological abuse, and sexual assault from a young age. Since then I have been through years of therapy that has helped me to cope with my trauma and PTSD. I have had several periods not only of regaining my repressed memories but reconnecting to all parts of myself. When the mind begins to repress itself it is not selective in what is shut out, as I forgot myself I forgot my connection to the unseen, and as I remember myself I remember what has always been.

I hope by sharing my story with others that those who have been through their own trauma and pain might feel seen in some way and potentially feel hope for their own healing. I started learning Reiki as a way to express my connections to energy and to myself, and I hope to be able to offer healing to others through my connection to Reiki energy. My desire is to help others by holding space for them through Reiki healing and to assist in processing and understanding with the tarot.
